Hamilton: So It's History but Actually Interesting to Hear?

Writer: The Confessioner The Confessioner

"Talk less. Smile More." If I was to count the amount of times that I have heard this say to women in both real life and fiction, I could probably give Jeff Bezos a run for his money. But because of a little small no name musical, I say this all the time. You probably heard off it but most likely not. What's it called. Hamburg? Harrison? Oh, right.... HAMILTON!! If you have not heard of this amazing, brilliant, GOAT Broadway musical, I have nothing to say except you poor unfortunate soul and to "Look around, look around," Hamilton has been one of the biggest things this year. Even more than some of the 2020 events of the month. When Disney released Hamilton on July 3, 2020 on Disney+, let me tell you. I told my family to not bother me, disturb me, or try to talk to me when I got ready to watch Hamilton that night. If they did, I would have been visualizing ideas on how to make them "redder with bloodstains." It actually wasn't until earlier than summer that I actually listened to the soundtrack for the first time. I know. I know. I deserve to be canceled. But I also have to be discovered first, so I have nothing to worry about. I'm "not going to throw away my shot" just yet. Let's get back to "The story of tonight." I would not consider myself to be a theatre buff, but I won't lie and say that there are not a lot of musicals and numbers that I hold dearly. I remember in 2015 when friends would be singing Hamilton and talking about it. I remember when TV shows and movies would mention about the musical. But for some reason I could not find myself to get into it that time. i felt that why would I listen to the soundtrack if I could actually see the play. I felt that without the visuals, I would not truly understand the story. I can't remember what made me finally decide to listen to the soundtrack. But you can best believe that I finished it in one sitting and was having a whirlpool of emotions. I truly felt that I was able to visual everything that was happening with the great detail that was in the songs. So when I found out that it would be on Disney+, I was ecstatic that I would finally be able to see this amazing performance for the price is $6.90. And it is now at this moment that I was yet to really talk about the actual musical as much as I have been talking about how much I like the musical. I should really get back on track. Okay. So if you made it this far, you should know what Hamilton is. But if you made it this far and don't know what Hamilton is, first, wow. You are really committed to the post. Second, I'm going to tell you. Hamilton is a 2015 award winning Broadway musical that tells us of the story of founding father Alexander Hamilton. With it's combination of rap, hip hop, jazz, R&B, and many other styles, it had something for every type of audience. I would also like to say that I wish Hamilton was a thing when I had to do history in school as I would have did so much better with remember dates and events. So it was created by Lin- Manuel Miranda who also played the lead role of Alexander Hamilton. He spent so long trying to make sure that everything was just right that it took him almost SEVEN YEARS to write! I haven't been that dedicated to anything in my life. Maybe I should take some pointers from him and then my endeavors can become domestic and international hits. Each character of was perfection and I love how you have to watch it many times to get everything that is happening on the screen and still sometimes miss things. Which I am okay because it gives me more excuses to watch it more. But what I loved the most of how it told the story of America then with America today, as said by Miranda. On the stage, it had performers of all different races and ethnicities that showcase how our world is today. The colour of the performer's skin did not stop them from playing to role. It was purely based on their talent and if they could embody the role. Like, "how lucky we are to be alive right now?" Well..... there is a lot of stuff happening right now and the world is seeing to be going downhill by the millisecond, but let's just pretend for a second. But I believe that we will "rise up" from all of what is happening. Let's focus on the differences of today's United States and the United States of when Hamilton is set. And let's not forget the stellar cast!

I still cannot decide if I like Lafayette or Jefferson more. But as the taco commercial girl said, why not both? I feel that everyone embodied their roles so good that I constantly forget that they are not actually these historical figures and that theses historical figures look NOTHING like the cast. Oh, I can talk about Hamilton all day. But sadly, I will not be able to because of this weird thing called life and responsibilities. But I do hope that if you want to watch sometimes that would have you feeling sad, happy, powerful, reflective, shocked, and just in total awe within minutes of each song, I suggest you watch Hamilton like now. I feel like I'm forgetting to say something but can't remember what it is. It's something really important. Oh, now I remember! It's the most important line from the musical that it totally necessary to the storyline that it would not be the same without it. "And Peggy."
